The TCO Consulting Group LLC - News

Defining, Reducing the Costs, and Maximizing
the Benefits of your IT Investments

The TCO Consulting Group is an independent Information Technology Strategy, Cost, and Benefit Identification/Definition Information Technology (IT) Consulting Firm.

The firm was founded on the principle that business and IT leaders need an experienced and  completely independent source to turn to when strategizing, looking at options, planning, and setting the major IT decisions for their organizations.  They need someone who has the experience and is not part of any internal or external teams that could influence an unbiased analysis.

Internal resources are too often biased by the individual needs of their own organizations. Business decisions are too often made based on the analysis of stakeholders who are not completely independent.  Organizations also rely on analysis inputs from their vendors.  We have been IT vendors ourselves for years and clearly know the outcome of almost any vendor analysis.

The
TCO Consulting Group is not tied down by any of those biased perspectives.  The TCO Consulting Group works for its customer lead sponsor and is motivated by the overall goals of the client organization.

The term TCO has evolved over the years to mean more than just "Total Cost of Ownership", we should know; we have been Gartner Group Certified TCO Experts for over 10 years.

In today's economy, it is not just the cost but the benefits achieved that are important.  It is not just the cost of acquisition but the cost of operation/maintenance.  What business savings does the solution derive or what business revenue generated?  A true TCO analysis needs to look at all of this.

At the
TCO Consulting Group, TCO (to us) means not just “Total Cost of Ownership” but “Technology Cost Optimization”.  Optimization starts with independent analysis and informed decision making.  We make that happen for you.

TCO continues to evolve and we are keeping up with the latest.  In 2009, there seem to be three major focus areas we are seeing:
1) The focus on Power Needs and how it is affecting many IT solutions.
2) The soon-to-arrive legislation on "Carbon Cap and Trade". Have you thought about your strategy yet?
3) Software maintenance costs.  It is a storm that is about to peak. Has your organization established its position?
